Va Community Has Unique Interracial Group in the South
In Ole, Virginia, the Women's Council for Interracial Cooperation stands as a rare interracial group in the South. Formed about five years ago by Mdee White and eight Black women, it aims to foster understanding and open discussion of shared issues. The council has had two Black presidents and one White president, with leaders including Vivian Carter Mason and Sue Slaughter, amid doubt such groups exist elsewhere in Virginia or the region.
