Miami Teacher Found Dead in Apartment

The bodies of Joseph and Sav ages 73 and 36 were found in their apartment at The gasset with an oil stove blaze in the bedroom and clothes in disarray. Miss Mercedes Byron 24 was found in a sacked apartment near Liberty City School. Autopsies pending at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Five teachers from her school discovered the deaths after she was absent two days. Sheriff’s department investigating with possible arrests if theories prove true. Miss Byron, daughter of Otis and Mrs. Byron, formerly of 1729 NW 6th Ave, graduate of Booker T. Washington High and Florida Normal College, member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Surviving is a 3-year-old daughter. Autopsy ordered on the child’s bodies. burial to be handled by Pharr Funeral Home.

Key Westan to Receive U S Meritorious Award

John H. Finlater, executive secretary of the honor awards board, says the award honors outstanding work in the department and foreign service. Frank E. Pinder, a Key West native and Florida A&M graduate, rose from county agent to senior post in the Farmers' Home administration and later joined the Liberia Economic Mission where he advanced agriculture. He and Liberia’s secretary of agriculture, John Cooper, helped accelerate farming in Liberia, aiming to lift the country’s principal industries.

Florida A and M Wilberforce Ready for 18th Classic Battle

The Orange Blossom classic between Florida A and M and Wilberforce State is set for Saturday night in the Orange Bowl with FAMU a one touchdown favorite. The city expects about 15,000 fans. 5,000 visitors are due Friday as Miami hosts festivities, parades, bands and dances surrounding the bowl weekend.

Woman Beaten in Jail After Traffic Incident

Mrs Olivia Mitchell and her husband say their truck was pelted by bullets after a White man struck their vehicle. Police followed in four cars then a sergeant beat Mitchell and jailed his wife who was later released after mistaken identity cleared. He remained bedridden days after.
