Tom Brightwell, 75, heads the Brightwell group, with real estate, a filling station, taxi service, trucking equipment, a frozen food locker plan, a grocery, and a government mail route contract. The family values exceed $10,000 in property, and Brightwell hints at a fortune between 200 and 400 thousand dollars. The family began poor 35 years ago, built businesses, and now share profits among eight children with two sons married to White women. The community reports no racial prejudice observed.
