Mrs Sarah Rolle Dies in Miami Community Leader and Tailor’s Widow

Mrs. Sarah W. Rolle longtime Miami resident and wife of Daniel Rolle former Afro American Life Insurance clerk and Atlanta Life employee died Saturday after being stricken 45 minutes earlier. She was a charter member of The La Cheerios Zeta Phi Beta Sorority affiliate and active Gardenia Circle officer. Funeral at Greater Bethel AME Church with burial Saturday in Wadley under James Davis Funeral Home direction.

Drowning Victim Davie Aged 14 At New Smyrna Beach

A 14 year old girl, Mecielte Davie, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hyder Davie of 2351 NW 63rd St, drowned Sunday at Bethune Volusia Beach New Smyrna. She was swept out by a strong current while swimming with relatives. The body was recovered Monday. Funeral services will be Friday Aug 2 at St James AME Church Range Funeral Home directing.

11 Year Old Boy Drowns At Virginia Beach

Eleven year old Daniel Woods of 2793 NW 43rd terrace drowned at Virginia Beach Sunday. His body was found in the bay Monday afternoon south of Government Cut after a Coast Guard helicopter sighted him at 5 30 pm and a Harbor Patrol boat brought him ashore. His mother Bertha Me Woods said Daniel stayed behind when the others were called to the car and went to the surf to go home. He wandered too far and was pulled under by the undertow.

White Man Gets Life For Killing Negro in Ga

In Zebulon Georgia an elderly White farmer B T Dukes aged 71 was found guilty of the December fifth 1956 shotgun killing of Maybelle Mahone a 30 year old Negro mother. A Pike County jury recommended mercy and Judge John H McGee sentenced Dukes to life in prison. Sheriff J A Riggins reported Dukes said Mahone sassed him prompting the shooting at her home near the town about 50 miles south of Atlanta.

The District Sunday School and Baptist Training Union held their 52nd and 57th annual conventions at Mt. Zion Church in Miami. Rev. Edward T. Graham led the pastor and congregation plus nearby Baptist churches in hosting visitors. The theme was The Church Fostering Personal Christian Living in the World. The theme song was If Jesus Goes With Me I’ll Go Anywhere.
