Sunrise Easter Pageant Grows To Huge Miami Beach Crowd

The 1955 sun rise Easter pageant at the Orange Bowl is projected to attract more than 40,000 worshippers, expanding from a sea shore event in Miami. Local musician L Hart dies in apartment fire

Lloyd Hart, 40, a well known local musician from 7755 West 56th Street in Airport Gardens west of Miami Springs, burned to death Monday afternoon when his home caught fire. Authorities suspect he slept while smoking, igniting a mattress or couch. Scott of 533 West 24th Street, Hialeah, said the blaze was reported around 3 45 p.m. and an unidentified woman aided in the attempt to reach Hart. Hart’s body was recovered in pieces after being consumed by the flames. He was formerly married to Leticia Perrall and is survived by his present wife Willie Ware Hart, a daughter Juanita Hart Hanley of Brownsville, and other relatives. Funeral services set for Saturday April 9 at 2 p.m. at the Church of God, Range Funeral Home directing, with Bishop A M Cohen officiating.

Woman Held As Stabbing Suspect

Thelma Cooke aged 24 of 139 NW 121st St. was held in county jail Wednesday pending charges for the fatal stabbing of Robert Barbaroy, 36, at his home on 544 NW 8th Ave. Police said the stabbing occurred in the woman's residence.

Racing With Pal Kills Woman in Speeding Crash

Ulysses Johnson, 22, of Fort Lauderdale, faces manslaughter charges after his south bound car at 85 mph struck 37 year old Jean Uken of Hollywood as she crossed SR 7 near Johnson Street. The victim flew 50 feet and landed 343 feet from impact. Johnson was chased by State Trooper James Cox who witnessed the crash during a street race with Clarence Tuggin, charged with reckless driving.

Two Miami Stations Face License Renewal Delay

The FCC notified WFEC and WMBM that renewal of their licenses may be delayed pending an inquiry into reports that horse race tipping services used the stations. WAHR in Miami Beach was also mentioned in the letters as nonoperative.

Released in Roberts murder case exonerates Columbus Stewart

Columbus Stewart aged 33 was released in Jacksonville after being cleared of any link to the July murder of Judith Ann Roberts in Jacksonville. Homicide Detective Charles Sapp reported Stewart’s answers and lie detector results as strong indicators of his noninvolvement. Stewart had been sought since leaving Miami around the time of the slaying.

Moore Guilty Of Second Degree Murder Verdict 1954

Sammie Lee Moore, suspended Miami police officer, found guilty of second degree murder in the March 28, 1954 fatal shooting of his former wife Bernice Moore. Jury of 12 White men deliberated three hours. sentencing set for later date. Moore’s attorney Henry Carr absent. appeal possible.

Woman bystander killed in Belle Glade shootout

Patrolman Davis of 3566 Thomas Ave Miami police killed by Ralph Reese in Belle Glade. Reese fired six blasts as Davis shot back, wounding him twice and injuring Davis. Davis’s brother Elijah hurt in the thigh. Reese charged with double murder awaiting hearing. Davis survived by his wife son sister. Funeral planned at Greater Bethel AME Church in Miami led by Rev J B Blackwell.

Sanitation Worker Hurt Climbing On Moving Truck

Bennett Stevens a 25 year old county sanitation worker was seriously injured Wednesday after losing balance while climbing onto a moving garbage truck. He resides at 1972 NW broken (Address partially unreadable) in the county.
