Medina Happy but Will Resign from Army after Acquittal
Capt. Ernest L. Medina, acquitted of murder, involuntary manslaughter and assault in the My Lai massacre, says he bears no bitterness toward the Army and will resign his commission. The court martial found he did not know of civilian deaths and that he lost control, while Lt. Calley remains the only soldier convicted. Jurors noted war crimes may have occurred but Medina did not commit them. Army officials warned possible administrative punishment or demotion, though resignation seems likely.
