Hearnes urges welfare changes to aid Missouri
Governor Warren E. Hearnes says two proposed federal welfare changes could add about 68 million dollars yearly to Missouri. He telegraphed Missouri members of Congress urging support as a conference committee meets. One proposal would raise the federal matching formula by 20 percent for several aid programs, freeing about 26 million dollars in state funds annually. The other would shift funding and administration of old age assistance and related aid entirely to federal control, saving Missouri about 42 million annually starting January 1, 1974.
