Mexico Girls Tennis Competes in Kirksville Tourney

The Mexico girls tennis team sent Barb James and Tonya Cockrell to lead in Kirksville facing seven teams after a rainout. They aim to sustain undefeated top doubles, with Toni O Connor Kelly Williams forming the second doubles, and Therese Rankin Jamie Nielsen the third. JV players Mindy Marshall Chris Cottey Ann Farnen also competed. The racketeers split early matches, then fell to Jeff City before bouncing back to beat Helias 6-3 and Sedalia 4-1. The JV slipped to 4-4, losing to Helias and rebounding 5-2 over Sedalia. Upcoming matches include Fulton and Hickman, with a Saturday trip to Fulton for the conference meet at Westminster courts starting 10 a.m. The Bulldogs seek revenge at Jeff City on Oct. 11.

XCC Takes Third In JC Invitational

The Mexico barriers finished a strong third at the Jeff City Invitational held at Fills Porter Park, led by Co-Captain Dan Marley who placed third overall and set a new course record of 12. Marley and teammates Randy Barnes Alan Kimbel Dan Hexworth and Aaron Rum Mans contributed while injuries to Keith Bartela and Greg Collins reduced the squad. Freshman-sophomore Joe Love ran a personal best of 15 23 for seventh in his division as the team extended its undefeated streak to 6 0 by beating Centralia Rockbridge and Hellas. Coach Ron Whittaker praised the effort and noted Fulton next on the schedule as the conference and district meets approach.
