The World Vision handbook notes 620 mission agencies in 182 countries, with youth short-term programs expanding. Total American missionaries abroad plus Catholics total about 43,500, while U.S. mission contributions climbed from 393 million in 1972 to 656 million in 1975. Major agencies include Wycliffe, Southern Baptists, Adventists, Churches of Christ, and Assemblies of God, with budgets led by the Southern Baptists at 52 million.
