Industry Boosts Wholesale Prices
Wholesale food and farm prices fell in April for the first time in six months, led by a 2.9 percent drop in meat prices. Meanwhile industrial raw materials rose 1.4 percent, the largest monthly gain since January 1951, boosting overall wholesale prices 0.8 percent. The President warned price increases may be higher for months, Meany urged broad controls, and Stein said farm price gains reflect a global boom and dollar devaluation.
