Carter Urges Vigorous Action On Human Rights
President Carter urged the United Nations to strengthen action on human rights in a 20 minute General Assembly speech. He received praise from Niger, the Bahamas, the PLO and Israel while a Soviet representative offered praise for disarmament while declining comment on human rights. The audience cheered and gave a standing ovation as he pressed to close the gap between promise and performance in protecting rights without delaying security or peace. Separately, births were reported in Audrain Medical Center including Travis Ross Johnson and Jessica Rose Foster, with details of weights and families. The U.S. proposed a Soviet American treaty to freeze development of new weapons and seek deep nuclear cuts, while Congress was urged to approve 7.5 billion dollars in foreign aid and affirm peaceful paths to black majority rule in southern Africa.

Goldwater's Brother Linked To Arizona Mob Associates
Robert W. Goldwater, head of Goldmar Inc., and Joseph F. Martori led Hobo Joe's restaurant shares with Herbert L. Applegate, a longtime associate of Mafia figure Licavoli Sr. The five year tie to the chain drew scrutiny in a 23 part IRE series after Don Bolles' murder, though no illegality by Goldwater was proven.
