Joe A. Belcher completed a two day Animal Control Officer Training Program at the University of Missouri in Columbia. The program covered public relations, shelter management, record keeping, rabies, legal duties, euthanasia, restraint, and handling, plus humane and community education roles for animal ownership. Thomas R. Peak was named executive director of the Missouri Council on Criminal Justice Region 14 after earning a criminal justice degree from Central Missouri State University in 1973 and serving in the Marine Corps. Five A B Chance Company employees earned service awards, including Marvin Rodgers with 15 years and James Harvey with 10 years. Janice Kuntz, Roger Mantle, and Ronald Millis received five year pins.

A P Green Refractories expands its Central Engineering Department to include plant safety environmental control and energy conservation. Safety program achievements include 58 percent reduction in lost time injuries across 20 U.S. plants aided by 17 000 man hours in 12 supervisor seminars. Environmental efforts target July 1 1977 compliance with federal standards and cost about 760 000 for an electrostatic precipitator plus 200 000 for a wet scrubber system.
