No Jury Trials For Juveniles Upheld by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court ruled 6 to 3 that juveniles accused of crime may be tried without juries. The decision, written by Justice Blackmun, limits juvenile protections but preserves state leeway. The ruling stems from cases in Pennsylvania and North Carolina amid broader Court shifts to the right.

British Hold Soviet Scientist Under Wraps
British security chiefs kept Soviet space scientist Anatol Fedosseiev under wraps as speculation swirled over his defection. The Home Office said he is in Britain and has permission to stay, with unofficial sources claiming he led Soviet space programs and was the defector best since World War II. Despite reports of Brussels and London contacts, NASA officials said the defection would not derail ongoing U S Russia discussions on docking and space rescue cooperation in Houston.
