Post Series Reveals Limited Hope for Bombing Pauses
The Washington Post reports secret Pentagon documents show Johnson advisers doubted pauses in bombing would spark peace talks between 1965 and 1968, aiming instead to influence opinion. The study notes internal debates on a pause as a step to escalate pressure, with Rusk and McNamara among key proponents. The JCS urged maintaining pressure, while weather and military limits shaped pauses.

Additional items include Ellsberg's claims about government lies to reporters and various regional reports on Vietnam, politics, and labor.
