Missouri weigh limits debated for fuel trucks
Jefferson City AP Senate Roads and Highways Committee urged Gov Teasdale to seek a 90 day moratorium on fuel hauling weight limits. Highway Department officials said they lack authority to rescind limits. Merrell proposed the moratorium to boost fuel deliveries during shortages and cold weather, while Teamsters opposed higher axle weight citing tire blowouts and safety. The committee favored reporting the bill from committee. Gerald Ford rests and plays golf at Pebble Beach during a California visit with Darius Keaton and A Thomas Taylor.
