Cottonwoods in the Oregon Trail Era and Prairie Memory

The piece recalls the Oregon Trail journey from Westport Landing along the Missouri River to the Rockies. It highlights cottonwoods as lifelines for water, fuel, shelter, and news, and notes frontier justice by hanging trees, jail scaffolds, and the enduring mythic prairie wind. It blends history with landscape and memory of Audrain County lore.
