Peru Takes Over American Copper Mines
Peru's military regime nationalizes Cerro de Pasco, the Cerro Corp subsidiary, seizing six major mining complexes valued around 175 million dollars. The decree declares the mines public and social interest, with Ministry of Mining to take over and Cerro to be compensated after court-appointed experts assess value. Cerro operated in Peru for nearly 90 years and had previously offered to sell to the government.
