1974 Crop Year Demonstrates Irrigation Benefit
A 1974 drought exploited irrigation benefits over dryland farming. On 5000 irrigated acres profits reached $626,580 with irrigation yielding markedly higher corn and soybean outputs. Farmers noted higher costs per acre but still strong net gains, especially on the best yields. The Audrain Extension Center report, by Dale Schnarre, cited farm averages and potential future adoption with MU computer analyses and local involvement.

Argentine Beef Exports Up One Third
Washington AP The Agriculture Department says Argentina’s beef exports this year will total about 400 900 metric tons, up one third from 300 000 tons in 1974. The rise stems mainly from expanded cooked beef purchases by the European Community and the United States. Imports of fresh frozen beef from South America are barred due to hoof and mouth disease. Most such beef comes from Australia New Zealand and Mexico. No curbs on cooked beef imports despite 1964 quotas or voluntary agreements.
