Mobil Finds Oil Off Viet Coast
Mobil Oil Co reports its first exploratory well off the South Vietnam coast in the South China Sea yielded oil and gas at over 9000 feet depth. Production tests showed a flow of several hundred barrels per day and several hundred thousand cubic feet per day, with size estimates pending full tests. The well lies about 100 miles southeast of Saigon near the Glomar IV rig.

Report questions US oil estimates and future energy path
A National Research Council panel says US oil and gas reserves are far smaller than government estimates. It projects oil and gas may run out in about 25 years, not 40 to 60, and urges a shift to coal and conservation.
