Hiatal hernia and reader questions answered

Dr Thosteson discusses hiatal hernia diagnosis and symptoms with readers, clarifying that a visible or painful bulge is unlikely for true hiatal hernia. He suggests abdominal wall issues as a possibility, notes weight as a contributing factor, and offers his booklet on the condition. He also addresses diabetes management, insulin timing, erectile surgery, and the need for X rays to assess lung cancer risk, advising readers to request his booklets.

Householders Not Blanket Prone

Gallup poll for the Federal Energy Administration finds most households east of the Rockies unwilling to lower thermostats to 55 at night. About 10 in 100 would set daytime temps below 63, with 59 to 61 at night. President Carter cited savings from 65 by day and 55 at night. The survey, conducted Feb 5–6, shows 66 percent east of the Rockies doubt a real fuel shortage, while 61–62 percent kept thermostats lower than a year ago.
