Bills Piled Up Ahead For Legislators

Missouri lawmakers return January 5 facing more than a thousand bills with 709 measures already filed in the House last June. The pile includes 19 Senate bills and a Senate joint resolution, plus 33 proposed constitutional changes. With pre session bill introductions, the backlog will grow by 300 or more in the weeks ahead. The Senate has kept last June's bills tabled as dead unless new action is taken. Major figures await new committee referrals and floor debate.
