Offshore oil bids soar for Atlantic Coast leases
The oil industry bid about 1.13 billion dollars to search Atlantic Coast tracts, far above Interior estimates of 400 to 1,000 million. Exxon led with about 348.5 million on 34 tracts, while a Mobil-led group bid 107.7 million on a tract. Court actions delayed opening until Marshall denied a block, with leases 45 to 90 miles off the coast from New York to Virginia.

Missouri court cancels $1.35 million injury verdict
Missouri Court of Appeals voids a $1.35 million damage award to Paul Glastris, then 14, who lost use of his arms after touching a 7200 volt line on a pole near Ballwin. The panel ordered a new trial and exonerated Union Electric Co. and Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., finding no proof they could have known trespass near the pole.
