Report says Army heroin use claim in Vietnam inflated
Wichita pathologist Dr. William Beals disputed a 1970 Army report claiming 25 percent of lower ranking enlisted men in Vietnam were heroin addicts. Attorney John Eric Engstrom, who helped compile the study, said the survey showed 10 to 40 percent in sampling, but Beals cites medical tests indicating far lower figures. Beals notes Southeast Asia Army drug use max 3.4 percent. Air Force under 0.5.
