Connally Sees Stability In Blockbuster Plan
Secretary of the Treasury John B. Connally forecast that Nixon’s wage-price freeze and sweeping economic package will yield a period of stability to curb inflation and restore consumer confidence. He calls the plan the most sweeping in 40 years, notes progress like lower unemployment yet warns the balance of payments deficit at 10.7 billion dollars remains too high. He says the 90 day freeze is voluntary but backed by sanctions, and rejects the idea that it signals failure of Nixon policies.
