MFA Head Foresees Price Blight Impact on Farmers
Columbia report notes Fred W. Heinkel of the Midcontinent and Missouri Farmers Association warns price blight could hit farmers harder than corn blight. He cites bumper crops, potential $1.43 cash for new-crop corn in June, then $1.04 by August, and notes lower soybean area with yield gains offsetting losses. He criticizes the 1970 Agricultural Act and warns of dock strikes reducing export sales while urging rural rebuilding and fair returns.

Urea in Silage Saves Protein Cost
Last month Ross Swofford urged adding 10 Iba urea to corn silage at harvest. In Audrain County last year at least six farmers tried it with some using a computer for ration formulation after testing. The urea mineral mix can cut protein costs by about $2 per ton. Various application methods were used including bagged products, home mixes, and applying at the blower or spreading on loads.

FHA Has Record Year of Loans in Missouri
The Farmers Home Administration in Missouri extended more than 96 million dollars in credit during the 1971 fiscal year ending June 30, a 53.7 percent rise from the prior year. Monde St. Cline, state director, said gains were strongest in rural housing with 4876 housing loans and 31 group rental complexes for seniors. About two thousand farmers obtained funds for farms, while 1100 persons secured low interest disaster loans. Community projects spurred 10 million in loans and grants for water, sewer, and waste facilities. Joseph T. Raine supervises Audrain and Montgomery Counties from the USDA Building in Mexico.
