Jefferson City AP reports the Missouri House rejected state aid for nonpublic schools by 71 to 86. The measure would have funded secular education, while the Senate earlier declined extending aid for private school transportation. Rep. James F. Conway called the bill a tremendous bargain for the state as nonpublic enrollment shifts to public schools.
