Centralia reports Ed West named product safety manager for the utility systems division, reporting to Vice President Al Knepper. West joined Chance in 1871 as a project engineer after earning electrical engineering degrees from the University of Missouri Columbia. Also named planner for national inventory distribution, Mark Roland has been with Chance since 1973, advancing from factory work to production scheduling, while Columbia College night student and Fulton High School graduate continues. New design draftsman Mike Ramsey and detail draftsman I Larry Barnes also promote, with Ramsey rising from detail draftsman I and Barnes moving from detail draftsman II after a year on the product engineering staff.

GM offers swap for wrong engines in 1977 cars
GM proposed a program allowing owners of new 1977 Buick Oldsmobile or Pontiac with Chevy engines to swap for a new 1977 model while paying eight cents per mile for the original. Alternatively buyers could keep the car and receive a 36,000 mile 36 month engine warranty. Illinois AG William J. Scott criticized the plan as potentially profitable for dealers while shortchanging consumers.
