Court OKs limits on federal phone taps against domestic groups
In a 2-1 decision the 6th U.S. Circuit Court ordered the government to release electronic surveillance tapes to Detroit White Panther member Lawrence Plamondon. The court held federal agents needed a court order to tap domestic groups suspected of threats, reversing a broad executive power claim. Justice Weick dissented, warning that releasing the tapes could threaten internal security.
