Joe Stecher of Nebraska defeated Stanislaus Zbyszko in straight falls at St Louis University athletic field before about 13 500 fans. First fall lasted 1 hour 23 minutes, second fall five minutes. Purse valued at 50000 dollars with 10000 posted by the Stechers. If Stecher won he would challenge any except Ed Lewis, who had refused to defend the title.
