Wilcox Aims for Citizen Commission as County Faces Budget Gaps
At Wilcox's request, the board considered forming a citizen and business commission to advise on improving finances but failed to gain enough support. The county's General Fund deficit was about 35 million in November, with higher expenses and lower revenue. A separate 40 million shortfall in health care agencies exists, while the 1.2 billion budget relies heavily on the General Fund. The panel also approved guidelines for the next budget adoption as departments face a 10 percent cut for 1994-95 and a revenue squeeze from a $1 billion drop in property values.
