Governor guards off reservation gaming limits in bill
Arizona lawmakers inch toward a compromise on tribal gaming compacts off Indian lands while repealing a last year anti gambling measure. Senator Ann Day backed the bill allowing off-reservation challenges in court or by referendum without derailing repeal. Senator Lester Pearce joined on the restriction. Symington expected to sign once final votes clear. Former Gov Evan Mecham would receive 423000 for recall and impeachment expenses under a new accord. A lawsuit from Mecham was dismissed, and a related audit measure on forfeiture proceeds was trimmed. A legislative panel will still study RICO enforcement and fund a reform core while the final bill heads to the governor.
