Robert G. Ingersoll dies at his Dobbs Ferry home following a brief illness. Born August 11, 1833, in Oneida County, he practiced law, lectured widely, and helped launch Blaine’s 1876 presidential bid. His career spanned years of public speaking and legal work in Illinois and Washington.
