The Glorious Fourth festivities centered in Mena and Cherry Hill drew a very large crowd from Mena Dallas Board Camp and other towns. Speakers included Judge Edwin Bryant in De Queen and A W St John with Rev A P Alexander providing prayers and readings. A flag linked to Spanish War veterans was displayed, and mining news from Hopper and Jackson sparked local interest. Dr Preston plans to visit to view prospects after an ore assay showed $8.20 gold and $4 silver at a shallow depth.

They purchased a Walt interest in four claims owned by John Paul J J Sullivan and Jacob Kerehneyer four miles south of town. Prospect rock yielded over three ounces silver per ton with gold and copper and an assay at Argentine Kansas showed one ounce gold and sixty ounces silver per ton. Rankin will return to supervise development and install equipment.
