Tin Plate Strike Threatens Nationwide Mills Closure
Chicago dispatch reports the American Tin Plate company faces a potential general strike next Friday night, risking closure of its mills and involving about 40,000 workers. Despite talks led by Shaffer and Williams, wage scales remain unsettled as the union seeks higher pay. In stock yards news, Armour confirms wage increases and back-to-work with gains, while painters join the strike ranks seeking 2 cent hourly raises. A National Bankruptcy Act convention is planned for July after initial discussions in Chicago, and Denver smelters await a wage framework from an advisory arbitration board. The Whist League Congress opens July 1 with hundreds expected nationwide.
