Mena Celebration Draws Big Crowds and Speeches

Reports detail Mena De Queen Ber anniversary events with crowds near 15,000, a parade led by a band, a mock battle between Red Men and U.S. soldiers, and speeches by J. L. Little Jeff Davis and E. E. Coricana Prospector Believes Ore Claim May Pay

Mr. M. H. Murrey of Coricana Texas has spent days scouting mineral prospects near town. He believes one claim ten miles away shows strong ore and has put several men to work. He traveled to Doplin last night and will return soon to assess progress and ship a carload for full testing and possible development.

Banks Starts Corner Grocery and Feed Store

I C Banks begins work on a 20 by 40 foot two story building at the corner of Pickering Avenue and Hermann Street to house a grocery and feed stock. James Banks, in Gravette last week, returns to manage the business here. Local health note urges Prickly Ash Bitters to regulate stomach liver and bowels as heat is followed by cool nights. An Evening School prize contest by Mrs H A McKee’s class awards best verbal history of Daniel to Miss Josie Mershon. Pleasure seekers visit Standing Rock for a day outing

A Sunday party of pleasure seekers left town for a scenic spot about ten miles away and enjoyed a pleasant day. The group included May Cunningham, Mirtie Hudgins, Anna Hudgins, Carrie Carder, Ida Malone, Effie Malone, Marvin Smith, Lee Alexander, Wit Salyers, Clyde Cunningham, Ernest Smith, and Bert Dickover. A headache from stomach upset and constipation prompted use of Dr. M. A. Simmons Liver Medicine.
