Generous Giving At Methodist Anniversary
Generous giving marked the annual Methodist mission services in Melfort with Rev. J. A. Doyle of Saskatoon as guest speaker. Collections for Beatty and Melfort missions totaled 504 dollars. Doyle outlined the new Institutional Foreign Scheme to establish an overseas center at Isinger on the O P R main line west of Yorkton, including a church school picture palace and a demonstration farm. Edith Audette of Ethelton had recently recovered from appendicitis and returned home. A social and dance followed with Mr. Finch Crane as soloist and auctioneer, selling boxes to cheers.

Pte. Bob Green of the first Melfort contingent returned on a three month furlough. He fought at Neuchap el Lange March and St Julien, was wounded twice in the stomach, and has been convalescing in an English hospital since last June. He spoke to Melfort platoon members about trench life and future risks before visiting his parents in Prince Albert.

Melfort Curler Wins Jewels at Prince Albert Bonspiel

Rural Phone Fees Trimmed at Town Council Meeting
At the regular town council session Mayor Mansell presided while councillors heard a delegation from rural telephone lines seeking lower connection fees. The bylaw will be amended to reduce rural per phone charges from 86 to 5 dollars. Bert Tike was named assistant engineer at the power house for 60 dollars monthly.

Holiness Movement Convention Held Near Town
The Holiness Movement holds a five day convention from March 7 to 12 at the chapel five miles south of town. Midweek and Sunday services are withdrawn this week and at Mr J Hatch Creek home. Births and accident reports: a learner at Lady Minto Hospital on March 12 1916 had a painful forehead injury from a saw accident while operating a wood saw. Melfort Platoon Recruits Reach 388 Total
Melfort Platoon of the 18th Battalion continues to grow with 35 men enlisted and expectations of reaching 50 soon. The honor roll lists Sergt J H Robinson and many privates including G Irvine J Kendall A Jerrard Higuine Hopkins and others. The unit cleared snow from the town hall square with the Snow Shovel Brigade and road scrapers and plans a whist drive and dance.
Methodist Ladies Aid Names New Officers
The national meeting at Mrs. 88 Armstrong home with Rev. W R Taunton presiding notes a successful year. The Aid raised 852 dollars and spent 240 with 122 dollars on hand and plans an April Town Hall entertainment and a British war widow sponsorship. Jack Bottomly and E Brady visit the Jeffries home last Sunday. On February 29 Bert and Bella Jeffries were overtaken near Rothwell school by a drunken driver’s block team. a horse was cut and the couple shaken but Bert and Bella recovered and moved to a Winnipeg convalescent home. A Caron bought eight fine pigs and warns to guard them to prevent theft.
