The eighth Melfort bonspiel devoted to patriotic use closed Friday evening after keenly contested games. Wood defeated Greenwood in the Johnston trophy finals with Gillespie third and Claggett fourth. Loggin beat Gillespie in the Carrot River finale, McLaren third and Wood fourth. Beach won Consolation over McFaydee, Pleasant Valley. Clift beat Wilcox in Citizens finals with Gillespie third and Beatty fourth. Visitors' semifinals reached by Wilco. final feats featured Sgt Loggin and McNaughton Stewart in multiple dramatic ends. Ted Span led the points with 34.

Special to the Melfort Moon. Eliza Wentworth aged about 84, formerly of Melfort, died in Calgary en route to Edmonton after sudden heart failure. Survived by eight children. Funeral held Feb 24 at John Wentworth's home with Rev. McColl. burial in Star City cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers listed.

Grain Growers Parliament marks new era in Canada
Special to the Melfort News. At Saskatoon February 5 to 7 the Saskatchewan Grain Growers Association held its fifteenth annual convention in a packed Udine Avenue Methodist church auditorium. The event drew about 1,000 delegates, with discussions on free trade, grain grading disparities between Canada and the U S, and efforts to boost farm services. A display by G G G Co showed farm machinery and a single engine circling the floor. the central offices will be in Re_wine with the Cooperative Elevator Co building. The convention mourned the loss of Honorary Secretary F W Green.
