Canada Food Board Licenses and Icing Sugar Regulation

The Canada Food Board warns licensees to display their license number on all letters and adverts. New rules extend to bakers, mills, fish dealers, and more after July 1. Private use bans French pastries and cane sugar iced cakes. penalties include fines up to 1000 dollars or imprisonment up to three months.

I O D E Meeting Notes Pay Weekly Dues

Members Meedames Young Conyers Lancaster Graham Taylor Lee and Jameson attended the I O D E work rooms. Proceeds totaled 2.45 dollars. Ten meetings were halted to conserve food. members will pay 10 cents weekly. Dues payable every Tuesday at the armory from 8 to 6 90, when members are present for the boys. Tea room committee will collect dues at each meeting. The weekly fee is described as not burdensome.

Maple Leaf Home Makers Club Planned Summer Events

The Maple Leaf Home Makers Club of Ratner announces a June 27 meeting at Mrs. Lewis Clark’s followed by a July picnic at Mr. A Novelius’s residence. A 6 dinner and supper will aid the Red Cross with an afternoon program and a dance in the evening.

Star City Plowing Match Honors and Prizes

The first Star City Grain Growers plowing match July? was held on John A. Macdonald’s farm near Star City. Walter Attrill won first prize $25 with 87 points. Blain Hamilton second $15 with 84.4 points. M Mooney third $10 with 81.4 points. D Campbell won men’s gaoy plow prize $15 and Norman Macdonald won boys under 16 sulky plow prize $10. Event judged by Prof. Sharps and Mr. Greenway. Grain Growers movement praised. Red Cross fund supported by prize donations.

Town Council Meeting Quiet Session on Rentals and Licenses

The town council met with Mayor Moore presiding and discussed routine business. Lloyd Bryden received use of the town hall for ten nights at $3 per night for a dancing class. W Lovell secured a five year lease of 10 acres of cemetery land at $1 per acre per year. The milk bylaw was amended requiring a $10 license fee from vendors. A. Dobson and J. A. McMillan spoke to leasing gro grounds for stock sheds and a committee will confer with the Agricultural Society. A court of revision is set for Tuesday July 16.

Pleasant Valley Red Cross Sees Busy June Meeting

The Pleasant Valley Red Cross met at Mrs. Stewart Campbell’s home in Flett Springs on June twelve. Members packed eighteen pairs of woke for shipment and distributed cutout work. Receipts totaled 9.30 with gifts from Mr. Canfield Hargh Dobson and Mrs. Moses. The society acknowledges 419.81 toward Pleasant Valley’s share of the January Patriotic Sale in Melfort.

Grain Growers United Service Observed in Melfort

Grain Growers Sunday was observed in Melfort with a 7 30 p m united service in the town hall. Rev A y Warren spoke on the gospel as the power of salvation while praising the association for its role in reform and community work. The program included scripture readings by Rev O D Campbell and Rev W B R Tanton, a Salvation Army devotional by Capt Sowwa, a solo by Rev CO Barnes, and contributions from a union choir with E K McLean at the piano. The collection totaled 89 dollars for Sasktchewan charities.

The obituary notes the death of Jennie Marguerite Olson born May 11 1878 in Nameos Norway. She immigrated with her parents to Montevideo Minnesota in 1892 and lived there until 1908. She passed away after a period of declining health and rests in River Cemetery.

Tea Room Hostesses Help Red Cross Campaign

Saturday June 15 in Star City tea room hosted by Mesdames Leech Stafford and Miss Brickell raised 23.55. A campaign bazaar committee was formed and sales planned for June 22 and July 4 with a fish pool and flower stall. Proceeds include a 43.10 cheque from the Social Club.

Melfort Passes Objective In Red Cross Campaign

Melfort has met its Red Cross drive objective of 5000 dollars with outer districts still to canvass. Large and small gifts fill the tally with many 25 dollars and under contributions. A Red Cross parade Saturday night drew a long, massive crowd along the main streets. A full list of donors will appear in a future issue.

Campbellville Red Cross met at Brett Levington home to raise 250 for the coming campaign. Mrs J J Byers and Miss E Brett tasked to canvass Irvington and Campbellville school district. A canoes and piro exhibition is planned for June 27 near N W 4 4 45 17. Volunteers arrange work and donations. May dance raised 16 dollars with a quilt drawing won by Mrs Jamieson.
