Big Red Cross Street Parade Lights Up Melfort Saturday

A monster patriotic Red Cross parade is planned for Saturday evening in Melfort as part of the June campaign. The procession starts at 7 30 from the school grounds and will include the Marshall Band Pipers Police Detachment officials students Boy Scouts Girl Guides floats and decorated cars. The drive aims at raising 5000 with strong support expected. The Saskatchewan Red Cross is highlighted for war relief work and local funds.

Short Course For Boys In Melfort June Event

John G. Rayner of the University of Saskatchewan Extension and director of Boys and Girls Cine, will visit Melfort on Tuesday June 18 to conduct a short course aligned with sending a local team to the Boy's Camp at Regina. The program covers judging farm animals weed identification and poultry work. The course is offered to youths under a certain age.

Beatty Picnic and Community Events Report

The Beatty picnic was held with a dance in the ball and prizes for baseball and football. North Canada Lumber Co worker H Routledge assisted. Melfort musicians provided music. Ice cream sale for the Red Cross raised 20 dollars. A new station and possible elevator were rumored for the summer, aiding farmers. Brockington church held a well attended picnic and bazaar. Carl Haggland painted his house. Pereou and Anderson did the work.

Red Cross Event Raises Funds in Arborfield

An Arborfield school dance under Red Cross auspices raised 115 dollars with a raffle yielding 25.09. Local farmers donated an acre of wheat to the Red Cross. A Friday schoolhouse dance honors boys leaving for the colors. Community visits and illness updates follow including George Miller and Mrs Bradshaw’s neighbors.

Viewing The Eclipse Draws Citizens Saturday Evening

Sun observers noted a partial eclipse around five o'clock on Saturday with about seventy percent obscuration. The darkened sun resembled a new moon as viewers used protective devices to watch the event.

Flying Corps Seeks Mechanics for War Effort

O. D. Bill receives notice from the D. C. No. 2 District Royal Air Force Canada that Toronto reports urgent need for mechanics to enlist for the war duration and six months after. Pay starts at 110 per day, with medical category B or lower required. Currently only men outside the Military Service Act class may be taken, though an exception may be arranged for eligible entrants. Women may also be needed for immediate service and men in category B over draft age.

Will Celebrate Dominion Day Classy Program

Enthusiastic meeting lays out a Dominion Day program with purses for trot and pace races and foot races. Events include green trot, running race open, pony and potato races, a slow mule race, children’s sports, and music by the Melfort Citizens band at the town hall. Successful Sale Of Work In Pleasant Valley Orange Hall

A large turnout filled the Orange hall Pleasant Valley for a sale of work dance and pie social on Friday June 7. Auctioned items raised $11.35 with total receipts for the evening at $19.50. Music was provided by Mrs Markham and Pete McRae. The committee thanks contributors and notes campaign details for June 17–22 will be announced next week.
