Beatty Notes Busy Week With Dances and Visits

Beatty residents reported social events and travel notes from Thursday through Saturday. Lovie Bohn returned to Regina by train after a stay at home. Franson and F. Ice cream sale in Gerow’s store to aid Beatty Soldiers Benefit League. B Armstrong bought a new Chevrolet. Farmers haul coal while grain harvests. Picnic planned around June 20 with date to be announced. Paynter of Kinistino bought a Ford and planned garage lumber. Capt Tyreman of Prince Albert spent Friday in Beatty returning home Saturday.

Star City Sets Plowing Match On June 12

The Star City Grain Growers Association hosts a plowing match on June 12 at John A. Macdonald’s farm, 1.5 miles southwest. Prizes in several classes include cash, clothing, riding gear, and special awards for best four and three horse turnouts. Tractor competition also offered with horsepower adjustments. A day-long program includes judge from University of Saskatchewan, possible speaker from Central Saskatchewan Grain Growers, plus dinner, supper, and an evening dance. Entries close at 9 am. entry fee $1 for men, none for boys.

Melfort Tea Room and Work Room Fundraiser Details

Mrs G W Johnson led the tea room with Mrs Hestie and Miss Lily Aikenhead on Thursday. Donors included Mrs Johnson and Misses Graham and Atkinson. proceeds reached 410 dollars. Mrs G B Johnston led the work room with assistants including Mrs Lee, Slian, Purdy, Taylor and others. Gifts from Clapton included six pens two pillow cases eight towels and six personal property brags. Mrs J H Millard to oversee next week’s tea. Trust Company Plans Apartment Block Renovation

G. Walker of Winnipeg visiting. Northern TrustCo aims to convert the Soa building into an apartment block with about 12000 dollars for repairs and alterations. The company would also buy debentures at par to fund a sewer connection, but needs an extra plot due to lot line constraints.

First Annual Plowing Match Set for June 18 Near Melfort

Arrangements completed for the first annual plowing match and picnic under the Melfort Agricultural Society. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. June 18 on J. F. Younghusband’s Oli Beatty farm four miles southeast of town. Awards range from $10 to $50 with a silver cup prize to be won three years in succession, plus special prizes for a four horse turn-out.

Naisberry Red Cross Fund Update and Donations

The Naisberry Red Cross reports slow work lately with $50 monthly from Regina and $5 monthly per teen in the junior branch. A forthcoming June picnic is announced and donations noted for the bazaar booth. The year’s gifts include Edna Goodson $100 Miss Branden unspecified amount and several small contributions from locals plus a life membership fee of $2.60.

Star City Red Cross Promotes May Fund Drive

The Star City Real Cross society met on Thursday May 80th to plan a fund drive June 17 to 22. Letters went to rural areas, canvassers named for west and east sides, and tea committee appointed for coming months.
