Melfort Bonspiel Prize List Attracts Outside Rinks

Arrangements for Melfort's Eleventh Annual Bonspiel are complete with a prize list described as the most attractive in years. Outside rinks plan to attend. prizes include smoking jackets clocks rocking chairs chocolates thermos bottles and kitchen sets. Grand Aggregate cups valued at $5000 awarded for most games won. Entries must be received by 7 p.m. February 5 and are governed by the Neskatchewan Curling Association.

Melfort Red Cross Teat Room Fundraiser Report

Mrs J T Beattie hosted the teat room last Thursday with Mixees Beatty and Wood assisting. Donations came from Beattie Whittome Atkinson and Assaly with workroom help from Lee Clarke Stiau Pardy Steele Angless Lee Mansell Clarke Lion Atkinson Johnston and F Lee. Mrs W Rose will run the tea room next Thursday and a load of wood is needed.

Popular Bank Clerk Receives Farewell Send off

J. R. Cromarty of the Bank of Commerce staff was promoted to relieving manager and left Saturday for Banff Alberta. Friends hosted a farewell party Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John McIntosh with many attendees including local residents and church members. Contributions were made by several patrons. Mr. Bashby of Saskatoon and other locals supported the event.

Red Cross Society Activities and fundraisers in Star City

The Star City Red Cross chapter held a February meeting in the Red Cross room to plan a Hard Times dance on March 1 and announce a 6000 donation to the provincial branch. Public school girls assisted with service and several members plus local donors funded sock drives, raffles, and ball dances raising funds for the society.

Patriotic Sale Earns Praise From Saskatchewan Branch

C D Hill secretary of the local Patriotic Fund reports letters of appreciation from Saskatchewan branch secretary praising the successful Patriotic sale in Melfort. The committee was impressed and directed the report be circulated to all branches with heartfelt thanks.

Enjoyable Social Function At The Nurses Home

An informal reception at the Nurses Home on Friday February 15 welcomed the new matron Mrs Momptit and Miss Freure. Guests toured the parlor, admired carnations, and tea was served by Mrs G B Jameson Mrs Spence and others. A hospital aid collection raised over $14 for the Benevolent Fund.

Methodist Church Affairs Are In A Prosperous Shape

The official board of the Melfurt Methodist church met in Mr. G. B. Jameson's office. Each department showed satisfactory progress. The Rev. W. R Taunton was invited to serve a fourth year. The board resolved to support an annual evangelistic effort in February.

Tisdale Lot Rental Aims at Food Production Push

Tisdale officials plan renting vacant lots at 9500 to boost food production. The move follows sale of the lots by the Tisdale Recorder and involves local school considerations. The Tisdale public school board has contracted Waterman-Watesbury Co. of Regina for related work.

Gilbart addresses young women in a series titled Five Foolish Fashions. A 4 PM Wednesday meeting for young Jade at the Methodist church features an address on A Girl's Fortunes. Sunday services include Gilbart on The Manifestations of the Sons of God and a ten lecture tour to Estevan for men.

Funeral for Mrs Grainger Held in Melfort District

The funeral for the late Mrs Thos R Grainger, who died February 14 at age K1 years, was held Sunday with Rev W R Tantoo and Rev Haines officiating. Interment was at Mount Pleasant cemetery. Born in 1887 near Montreal, she lived in Grey county Ontario and later moved to Walkerton and then to the Melfort district in 1894. Survived by husband three sons and four daughters. Mrs Grainger had been an invalid for over twenty years.

Campbellville Red Cross Meeting Report

Campbellville Red Cross held its February meeting at Mrs T Bell's home. Members packed socks and gowns totaling various contributions, and Gordon Byers won the cake ticket amid a $2000 cake fund. A January travel collection added $10, and a February 6th whist drive and dance raised $14.00 in Irvington. A March 13th gathering is planned at Mrs E McLean's home.

Melfort Curlers Headed to Prince Albert for Mixed Curling

Three Melfort curling rinks left Monday for Prince Albert to compete in a mixed event. Teams include skip Art McEwen with Dr Payne and C J Pollock, and skips Melvin Belew and B Millard with J McGregor and Jas Camerli.

Power Unit Installation Discussed by Town Council

At a Monday meeting in G B Jameson’s office engineers from Murphy & Underwood advised on a second power unit to handle peak lighting loads. The council heard from Kelling Switchboard and Northern Electric reps and laid over detailed plans until Murphy’s report. A $350 grant to Lady Minto hospital was approved and bylaw work on dogs was announced.
