Gerald J. Murphy, training as an aviator in Texas, writes his parents about solo flight plans after over three hours of dual instruction. He recalls dizzying sensations, early nerves, and gaining control as he flies at high speed amid rain, wind, and a crowded airfield.

Natsberry Red Cross reports receipts from a dance fundraiser by G J Harris and Sandy Mo Witttems totaling $26 50 to Lecas phool Pisesantdale. The society also gratefully acknowledges a $10 contribution from Gov. Astrill.
Star City Protestant churches announce a week of prayer starting January 7 with daily services. Speakers include Rev. Doyle of Saskatoon, Rev. Tanton of Melfort, Capt Bowton of Salvation Army, and Mr. P Heard of Melfort. Meetings run each evening at oclock. all are welcome.
A modest turnout attended the first masquerade carnival at the Melfort municipal rink on Wednesday evening. Officials attributed the tepid crowd to a busy Christmas season and other concurrent attractions. Prizes awarded included Best Ladies Costume to Mir Eva Moklowan for "Japanese Girl" and Best Gentleman’s Costume to B Clarke for "Northwest Fur Trader."

Park River Herald reports the death of John A Harris a Park River pioneer aged almost 85. Born February 10 1833 in Devonshire England he emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1854 and moved to Walsh County in 1880. He helped found the Park River Methodist church and is survived by his wife and many children and siblings. He passed after a period of weakness with his son John A Harris at Kensington. The obituary notes his sturdy character and long life among settlers.
The Melfort Red Cross tea room ran by Mrs H E Greenwood this week raised 1705 dollars. Donors included Mrs S J Green, W Tipney, and Misses Atkinson and Graham. Dover School contributed 3590, with other gifts from Mrs L B Gale and Mrs E Steele. Assaly and Jameson families aided the work room and helpers Lee Jameson Mansell Pardy Francis Lee assisted with serving and returns.
The Pleasant Valley Junior Red Cross hosted a December 20 entertainment and box social at Melinda school, raising 202 with 108 from box receipts and a winning number 6. A December 7 whist drive and necktie social at Orange Ball aims to aid Halifax disaster victims with lunch served and a barrel of apples donated by Alonzo Mitchell drawn during the event.
The Star City branch thanks Berlin BC for a 190.50 donation to Red Cross. A cake by Mrs Robert Jones brought 55.50, won by H J Edgington. Tea room hosts on Saturday Dec 22 were Misses Bird Doucette and McDonald. proceeds 10.75. Annual ball slated for New Year’s Eve at the Gaiety.
The Scenic Theatre installs a new Powers 6A motion picture projector to enhance shows. With two machines operating, the program runs continuously. Patrons are promised up to date films and improved projection quality.
Col J E Bradshaw who represented Prince Albert in the bust legislature and recruited the 249th Battalion died at Prince Albert. Mrs William Shannon, longtime resident of Prince Albert, also died on Christmas day.
