The BR NWM P has begun rounding up men not registered under the Military Service Act. Outside districts report arrests and handovers to authorities. Men may be armed or treated as absentees and sent to Rheki for duty. The aim is to secure needed men without harsh treatment, but strictness will apply to all eligible.
Minutes from the rural municipality of Carrot River No. 429 dated December 19 discuss relief for British and Canadian sailors and health measures. The council considers road reopening east of 1945-22, resettlement sites for a municipal hall, and a petition to the Dominion Government for free shipping points. The meeting addresses tax cancellations, land compensation for the municipal hall, and payments to officers, postponing final decisions to the next council.

H G Dawson leaves for Hot Springs Arkansas with his son Bobs for rheumatic treatment. Allan Davidson goes to Rochester Mayo Bros hospital for injuries from a recent auto accident. The Pas Herald reports dog mushers preparing for Winnipeg to St Paul race next month. Polly of the Circus will show at Scenic theatre Monday January 4 to aid Halifax Relief Fund with 35 cent admission. International curling final New Years day at local rink East defeats West 12 11. Largest crowd of the season enjoyed skating at New Years. Citizens Band supplied music. Mr and Mrs Ramsay and family arrived in town. Mrs Vi Water, at Nipawin, was in town December 17 visiting. A New Year Fair in Nipawin was noted with a splendid evening of recitations and saltines distributed.
Constable Wetecoter received word Tuesday evening that a man named Brown had been found dead on the road to the Lost River district. Details were scant but the man’s team returned home without him. Wetecoter plans an investigation.
Flett Springs donated potatoes and proceeds from an auction at the municipal hall to aid Halifax disaster victims. A crowd gathered for a concert and dance. items including 18 potatoes and a turkey raised funds, with individuals like W. Groat and others contributing. Proceeds totaling 70 went to support relief efforts.
The proclamation calls a January 6 special day of prayer across all churches. It quotes a message from the king urging unity and liberty in the worldwide struggle, asking belief and obedience to seek divine guidance and fortitude for the tasks ahead. The king designates January 6, the first Sunday of the year, for services and prayer.

South Melfort Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cowie assisted by Miss Parker and Mrs. James Teller held a Christmas dinner and supper for the bachelors of South Melfort. The social afternoon featured songs and praise for the Cowies as hospitable hosts. Mesers. W Watt and J Anderson were among attendees.
Capt F B Goodwillie writes that mail intended for him should be addressed to Canadian Reserve Cyclist Co. OEP England. The letter delivery depends on whether a camp is mentioned. otherwise casual addressing risks delivery failure.
