The town hall service on Sunday evening praised Allied victory and honored those lost to influenza. Speaker Mr. Barnes contrasted Germany's aggression with Britain’s honorable conduct, urged humility before God, and stressed the duty to live worthily of the soldiers’ sacrifices for the nation.
Town council members Claggett Wild McEwen and Lancaster presided as W H Tipney Hugh Bennett and C J Pollock submitted caretaker bids. Pollock won the position and council business proceeded quickly before discussing the new electric light by law slated for final adoption at the next meeting.
Secretaries of agricultural societies are reminded of the Saskatoon convention January 14 to 17, 1919 at the College of Agriculture. They may seek exclusive sessions or a conference of secretaries, with the Director ready to present suggestions by circulars. Early submissions are urged so they can be considered before the convention.
The Ministerial Association announces Thank Offering Day for Sunday December 8 in Melfort churches. After six weeks of Church closures due to the Spanish influenza, citizens are urged to place bank offerings in envelopes and mail or deliver them to local churches. The event aims to mark the end of the war and flu epidemic with broad participation.
Enthusiastic meeting of the Melfort Curling Club elects officers for 1918 19. Patron G B Johnston. President L A. secretary treasurer W H Jameson. executive and committee members named. Skips include C H Gillespie and G A McEwen plus others. Membership set at 10 cash with 64 cap, preference given to returning members before December 10. Local visitors William Nesbitt of Prelate comments on prospects.
The Department of Education offered two medals per high school for essays on The 1918 Victory Loan. Few essays were written due to the flu. Medals went to Miss Flo Nevison and another student as chosen by Rev. W. R. Tanton Rev. C. Barnes and Principal Jones.
All Saints Church announces a memorial service next Sunday evening December 8 at 7 p.m. for church members who died of influenza in recent weeks. The Church of England service at Stoney Creek School resumes next Sunday at 3 p.m. with Morning Prayer at 11 a.m. Sunday School and Bible Class at 2:30 p.m. and Memorial Service at 7 p.m.
Pleasant Valley church resumes after a flu closure with services on December 8. Jones at 11 a.m. Willowdale at 3 p.m. Pleasant Valley operations recover after the epidemic pause.
Mr Frank Roland Austin noted pianist will perform in Melfort on Tuesday December 10 under the Musi cal Club formed to elevate music lovers. The club plans a prominent artist each month and aims for an open recital. Manager Pollock says ice making will start next Monday and, with good weather, skating and curling will begin soon.
A doll dressed by Mrs. Mew of Melfort was auctioned in London for 500 dollars to aid St Dunstan’s Hostel for Blind Soldiers and Sailors. Letters from the Blind Soldiers and Sailors Care Committee acknowledged the gift after transit delays.
Receipt fragments list several donors and amounts including Mrs. P O Peterson Beaver Lumber Co Miss M G Flett Melfort School and M McPhail with sums of 13 18 1 00 2 00 and 100 respectively reflecting a community fundraising record.

The notice lists several local deaths and funeral details from Kinistino and nearby areas. Mrs H B Hendricks died after paralytic declines, survived by her husband two sons and two daughters. John Moen died November 10. Mrs Francis Skelton aged unknown died November. Mrs Roy Rupert of Twickenham died from pneumonia after influenza. their funerals at Pleasan tdale and related locations. A ten month old baby of Fred and Mrs Croswell died from influenza, with the mother seriously ill. Etta Aikenhead aged 15 months died while the Aikenhead family battled flu in Edmonton.
Local donors gave various items to Lady Minto hospital over the past week including Mrs Allison with grapes and oranges, J D Eidt five bags potatoes, Bert Burroughs a pail of milk, Mrs E McRae cream chickens and butter, Mrs T Kirkhope fruit and butter, Mrs Goodson fruit and jelly, Glen Gibson a load of ice, and Mrs Bethune chickens cookies and eggs.
Miss Mable Pollock returns to her home in Melfort Monday evening after spending six weeks with her grandparents at Kin.
Municipal nominations in Melfort foresee contests for mayor, council, and high school board. Mayoral candidates include O D Hill and A E Wild. Councillors named S C Lancaster H Macartur J Ramsay J H Stewart. High School Trustees A R Babington H G Dawson A H Humphries J W Gale. Elections Monday at the council chamber with women eligible to vote. Public School Trustees R Beatty and others elected by acclamation.
Norwood Presbyterian minister Rev Lennox Fraser must take a long rest due to serious illness. The Norwood paper notes his health has long been fragile and his doctor ordered immediate complete rest. Fraser hopes to recover in the Carrot River Valley and return to duties soon.
