Routine check leads to arrest for stolen plate

Medicine Hat police stopped a green Mazda Protege in the 500 block of 3rd Street Southeast after a routine plate search found the plate stolen. The 22-year-old Brooks man admitted the vehicle was stolen from Brooks and was charged with possessing stolen property and impaired driving.

Expanded visitor centre opens at Dinosaur Provincial Park

The Medicine Hat News reports the expanded Park Visitor Centre at Dinosaur Provincial Park now open and housing the Field Station of the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Alberta provided 2.9 million for the field station expansion including 1.5 million from the Centennial Legacies Grant Program. The centre offers interactive environmental education and extended fall hours with weekend winter openings.

Alberta woman jailed for real estate agent stabbing

Alberta woman Lisa McKay received more than six years in prison for stabbing realtor William Maloney to death on February 10 after both used cocaine at his Edmonton home. Maloney had pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier. Justice Jeanne Burch deemed the crime serious, noting it occurred in the victim's home after he invited McKay in.

Supreme Court to rule on fault in spousal support case

Romanian Soldier Killed in Kandahar Roadside Bombing

Canadian missionary Ed Hughes kidnapped near Port-au-Prince

Ed Hughes, a 62 year old Canadian missionary who runs the Tuton Gardens orphanage in Cabaret near Port-au-Prince Haiti, was kidnapped from his home late Monday. Witnesses said bandits attacked the orphanage and stole equipment before abducting him. A ransom demand of about 530000 Canadian dollars was reported with negotiations ongoing.
