In Johnstown on June 16 Mayor Daniel J Shields asked President Roosevelt to intervene to remove the so called murderous element at Bethlehem Steels Gautier plant amid a strike. A dynamite blast damaged the sidewalk and windows while a mill worker James Miss was kidnapped and a $5000 reward was posted for the abductors. The mayor blamed strikers for the violence and kidnapping.

Death removes another Liberal member from the Legislative Assembly
Edmonton reports the death of George H. Van Allen K C Liberal MLA since 1935 at Mayo Brothers Hospital. He was a vocal critic of the Social Credit government born 1890 in Ontario, taught in Lethbridge before law, admitted to the bar 1909 16 and made K C in 1929. His death reduces Liberal seats to four in a 63 member House. Funeral planned in Edmonton with tributes in the Legislature.

Spring Coulee Woman Fatally Burned
Mrs. Eunice V. Anderson, 27, died after a fire destroyed the family home near Spring Coulee late Tuesday. Harold Anderson, her husband, carried her and their three children to safety before rushing them to Cardston hospital where Mrs. Anderson died. The children escaped unharmed.

Seventy work horses shipped from Winnipeg arrived in Edmonton over four weeks ago for provincial highway projects.
