EDMONTON June 15 The Alberta Legislature approved the budget after a brief non confidence motion failed with a 40 to 7 vote. Social Credit leaders faced protests over taxation and basic dividends while the government pushes to prorogue and close the session.
From Hendaye June 15 insurgent forces reported pushing into Begona north east Bilbao while Baracaldo smokes. Basque militiamen barricade streets as government artillery bombards positions amid evacuations and civilian flight. An insurgent claim estimates Basque casualties at about 6 000 in four days.
Wheat futures in Winnipeg jumped the daily limit as reports from southern Saskatchewan indicated a poor crop. July closed at 21.22 1 8, October at 1.16 1 2, and December at 1.15. Regina's report estimated 5 million acres would not exceed feed and seed production.
The Dail approved the new Irish constitution draft 62 to 48 after a final session. General elections are set for July 15, with Cosgrave opposing it and de Valera planning a broadcast to Irish Americans and a Dublin rally. The referendum will occur alongside the election under the old constitution.
Major James Ritchie aged 72, a long serving Royal North West Mounted Police and Royal Canadian Mounted Police veteran who became Edmonton magistrate in 1929, died suddenly last night in Edmonton from a heart attack. Born in Scotland, he came to Canada in 1891.
Montreal June 14 (CP). J M MacArthur appointed general manager of the Northern Alberta Railway Company at Edmonton. He was CP R superintendent at Vancouver and earlier Medicine Hat, succeeding Geo F Fox after residence in Medicine Hat from 1918 to 1930.
The Thelma Stampede promises a large crowd from Medicine Hat tomorrow afternoon with a varied program of stampede events and races described as better than ever. Riders from Montana Saskatchewan and the Cypress Hills area are expected, and the redesigned dance hall will feature good music for the evening.

A curious crowd gathered on Second Street near CP crossing around six last night to view a gasoline powered car testing rails. The vehicle, resembling a streetcar, runs on its own power and drew attention despite no apparent interest from Chinese residents. It is currently testing rails in the Medicine Hat division.
