Gas price rise spreads through Medicine Hat stations

A half cent per gallon wholesale increase plus a ten percent retail lift took effect today, raising regular to about 45.4 cents and premium to 50.4 cents in many pumps. Oil firms cited a pending provincial tax hike as the motive, with impacts to diesel and heating oils as well. Station owners varied in passing on the changes, with some unaware and others recognizing likely price bumps at the pump.

In Nicosia Turkish minority leaders formed an 11 member provisional administrative council to run Turkish Cypriot affairs, seen by Greek Cypriots as a step toward separate government. Public vote on indoor pool to be called by March

Heart surgeon Barnard to meet President Johnson at LBJ Ranch

SAN ANTONIO Tex CP Dr Christian Barnard famed South African heart transplant surgeon planned a social call on President Johnson at the LBJ ranch near San Antonio. He said he admired the president and declined to discuss a heart examination. Barnard and his wife arrived Thursday night after arriving in the U S Saturday for personal appearances. Barnard noted plans to return to Cape Town after the meeting and to begin a second heart graft for a 55 year old dentist, Blai berg, who is deteriorating rapidly.

NHA mortgage rate seen rising on bond yields

Four U S Navy deserters seek asylum in Sweden

Four U S Navy sailors arrived from Moscow in Stockholm seeking political asylum claiming neutrality between East and West. They said they deserted to protest the Vietnam War and want peace, arriving on a commercial flight and being admitted temporarily while a decision is made. The group identified as Richard D. Regina Man Killed in Redcliff Head-On Collision

A Regina man died this morning in a head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway at Redcliff. The 8:15 a.m. crash left a Regina passenger injured and hospitalized. The other driver, Medicine Hat resident John S. Watson, suffered superficial injuries and was released. Names are withheld pending next of kin notification.
