Surprise Oil to Resume Drilling on County Farm
The Surprise Oil Co of Smethport plans renewed drilling on its county farm lease west of town with A J Hyatt starting on new wells by early next week. Five to three wells are planned as results warrant. Company members are W H Hungerford A J Byatt and M W Heinlein of Smethport. The firm began with a 20 barrel well on the lease in 1908 and though production has fluctuated the area may see increased activity, aiding local industry. R B Johnson, a Bradford man, served as juror at the term of court and declined his daily wage of three dollars to fund a Christmas basket for inmates at the county jail. Mrs M O'Brien of South Street remains critically ill after a severe apoplexy Monday morning.

The Baptist church held a Christmas cantata Tuesday evening with excellent music by the children. Mrs. Mick and Mrs. Corwin led the program. An offering over 50 dollars benefited children in need, and candy and nuts were shared with Sunday School youngsters.
