McKean Democrat (Newspaper) - January 6, 1921, Smethport, Pennsylvania Ean volume Xiv co., inc. Smethport pa., thursday january 6, .1921. Per year. This county soon to have women jurors for the first time in the history of Mckean county women s names arc being placed in the jury wheel along with the names of male voters by the jury commissioners now engaged in filling the wheel Tor the year at the court House in this Borough. Eight Hundred name s Are placed in the wheel each year and from it Are drawn a number estimated to be sufi client for of each jury court. Each voting in the county is drawn upon Foi its proper percentage in making up these 800 names and this year this percentage is divided proportionately Between men and women voters. While it is probable that males will be in the majority in the total aggregate some districts in the county show a far greater registration of women than of men. So far As can be Learned Mckean is the Only county in this part of the state that is placing women s names in its jury wheel although the Best Legal Talent in the state says that this is now the privilege of females of voting juries composed of men and women will be the Rule in the com ing terms of court where jury trials Are the Rule and it is not unlikely that in some cases efforts will be made to secure juries composed entirely of females. Jury duty As a Rule is avoided if possible by the average Man and it remains to be seen How this important duty of a. Citizen of the county will be to viewed from a feminine standpoint. R. C.
